Depression Can Lead to Suicide

Since 2020, there have been over 130 suicides a day in the U.S., making suicide the leading cause of death among young adults. A large number of these deaths stem from major depression disorders when the severity of the depression is so intense that people feel that suicide is the only escape from their painful emotions.


According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the U.S. Below you'll find more statistics on suicide in the U.S.

The age-adjusted suicide rate in 2020 was 13.48 per 100,000 individuals.

The highest suicide rate is - Middle-aged white men

Percentage of suicide deaths by White males - 69.68%.

Percentage of suicide deaths with a firearm - 52.83% Notable people whose depression leads to suicidal thoughts and/or suicide.

Cheslie Kryst – Miss USA 2019. Years of depression lead to her suicide in 2022.

Naomi Judd – Grammy Award Winning Singer – Died by suicide in 2022 after a public struggle with depression.

Robin Williams – Academy Award Winning Actor – Died by suicide in 2014. He experienced depressive episodes Halle Berry – Academy Award Winning Actress. Had suicidal thoughts after her 1997 divorce

Nicki Minaj – Grammy Award Nominated Singer. Had suicidal thoughts while pursuing her career

Pete Davidson – SNL Comedian – Had suicidal thoughts following his break up with Ariana Grande

Kandi Burruss – RHOA Reality Star – Became suicidal after a childhood conflict with her mother
