Symptoms of depression can include:

A sad, anxious, or "empty" mood that lasts 2 weeks or longer

Feeling hopeless, and pessimistic

Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions

Sleep issues, insomnia, frequent waking, oversleeping

Feeling guilty, worthless, or helplessness

Thoughts of death or suicide, suicide attempts

Restless, irritable

Aches and pains you can’t explain

Loss of interest or pleasure in once enjoyable things

Feeling slowed down, decreased energy

Changes in appetite and weight loss or overeating and weight gain.

 What's the difference between depression and anxiety?

Depression is normally a sad, hopeless mood. Anxiety involves fear and nervousness.

 

What is the link between depression and anxiety?

Anxiety and depression are both mental health disorders that can cause a disruption in a person's personal and professional life. Depression is associated with a person becoming disinterested in activities they enjoy. Anxiety is associated with fear or worry about what may or may not happen.

 There's a dysfunctional connection between regions in the brain.

 

How long do most depressive events last?

Depressive events last at least two weeks

 

How long do most depressive episodes last?

 Depressive episodes last from six months to 18 months or longer

 

What is postpartum depression?

Depression that some mothers suffer from after giving birth, which is due to hormonal changes, fatigue, and the sudden adjustment to entering motherhood.

 

 

Can depression cause heart disease or heart attack?

When you experience depression, anxiety, or stress your heart rate and blood pressure rise. There is reduced blood flow to the heart and your body produces higher levels of cortisol, a stress hormone. Over time, these effects can lead to heart disease. Depression and anxiety can also develop after cardiac events, including heart failure, stroke, and heart attack.

Identify the cause of your depression, anxiety, or stress, address it and consult a therapist if necessary. Before you seek medical assistance for any of these disorders, try exercise, meditation, eating healthy, or reading.
